  1. ICONS CONTROL
  2. The indispensable tool to process Windows icons
  3.  
  4. ------------
  5. INTRODUCTION
  6. ------------
  7. Icons Control is designed to display as many Windows icons as possible in a 
  8. 10x10 grid. Icons can be copied, renamed, moved, and erased with a click of 
  9. the mouse. Hardcopy of icons can be printed on any printer supported by 
  10. Windows. Icons Control can even display icons embedded inside DLL or EXE 
  11. files. Displayed icons can be edited, converted to bitmaps, or extracted to 
  12. ICO format (in the DLL or EXE viewing mode).  In addition, 32x32-pixel bitmaps 
  13. can also be converted to ICO format. Conversion and extraction can be done in 
  14. batch mode, thus saving a considerable amount of time for those of you with 
  15. large number of icons to process. Furthermore, any portion of the screen can 
  16. be captured into an icon or bitmap. For a complete description of Icons 
  17. Control, please refer to the help file accessible by clicking on the Help 
  18. icon from outside as well as inside the program.

  22. INSTALLATION
  23. ------------
  24. Run SETUP from the Windows File Manager.  You will be asked to enter a 
  25. directory to install Icons Control (default is Icnctrl).  For users who 
  26. download the Icons Control package from the internet, you may need to 
  27. download a copy of VBRUN300.DLL from the same site.  Since VBRUN300.DLL is 
  28. about 300K and almost everyone running a Visual Basic application have it, 
  29. I am not including it in the zip file to save disk space and download time.  
  30. Users who wish to receive the software on a 3.5" floppy disk will have every 
  31. files needed (including the VBRUN300.DLL) to run the software.

  35. HARDWARE/SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS
  36. ------------------------------
  37. * Any computer running Windows 3.1/Windows 95/Windows NT 3.51.
  38. * A standard VGA (a Windows-accelerated graphic board is recommended).
  39. * A mouse or trackball.
  40. * Any printer supported by Windows (optional).

  42. Icons Control has been developed and tested on a 486DX66 with 8MB of RAM, a 
  43. 1 MB Diamond Stealth 24 Windows accelerator board (at screen resolutions 
  44. 640x480x16, 640x480x256, 640x480x65536, 800x600x256, 800x600x65536,
  45. 1024x768x16, and 1024x768x256), a trackball, and mouse.  It has also
  46. been tested on a 100 MHz Pentium-based machine with 16 MB of RAM, a 1 MB 
  47. Diamond Stealth 64 SE (PCI) and a 150 MHz Pentium-based machine with 32 MB
  48. of RAM, a 2 MB VRAM Diamond Stealth Video 3200 with the same above settings.

  50. Icons Control was also tested on the following computers:

  52. 1) 100 MHz PCI Pentium-based computer with 16 MB of RAM and a 1 MB PCI 
  53.    Diamond Stealth SE.
  54. 2) 150 Mhz PCI Pentium-based computer with 32 MB of RAM and a 2 MB VRAM 
  55.    Diamond Stealth Video 3200 (S3-968) under the above resolutions and 
  56.    color depth modes.
  57. 3) IBM P5-133 with 32 MB or RAM and a 1MB PCI Diamond Stealth DRAM (S3-764).
  58. 4) AST Bravo LC 4/33s with 8MB of RAM and a 512K ATI video card.
  59. 5) Sharp PC-9050 notebook computer with 32 MB RAM and a 2 MB VRAM PCI Trident (9660/9680/938X) linear accelerator.

  63. 2) HP LaserJet 5L.
  64. 3) Brother HL-720.
  65. 4) NEC SuperScrip 660plus.
  66. 5) Canon BJC-610.
  67. 6) Epson Stylus Color.
  68. 7) Epson Stylus Color Pro.

  108. REGISTRATION
  109. ------------
  110. Icons Control is both freeware and shareware.  Freeware users are free to use 
  111. it to view, copy, mode, delete, and rename icons.  Icons Control even displays 
  112. icons embedded inside DLL and EXE files.  The displayed icons cannot be 
  113. extracted, edited, or converted.  The extraction, editing, and conversion 
  114. functions are only available in the registered versions (shareware).  There 
  115. is no evaluation period to use Icons Control.  You may use it as long as you 
  116. want.  But in order to use the above-mentioned functions, you must register 
  117. to obtain the registered version.

  121. PAYMENT TERMS
  122. -------------
  123. Registration is $25.  Registered users will receive the latest version through 
  124. internet email (UUencoded or MIME-encoded). If you prefer to receive the 
  125. software on a 3.5" floppy disk, the fee is $29.  As of this writing, I only 
  126. accept money orders, cashier checks, bank checks, or personal checks (MUST be 
  127. drawn from a U.S. bank).  International users can transfer the $25 fee to my 
  128. Bank of America account directly.  This type of payment requires an additional 
  129. $10 because BoA charges my account $10 for the transfer fee. Send me e-mail for 
  130. my account number and confirmation.  Compuserve users can register on-line and 
  131. obtain the registered version within 24 hours, Icons Control Registration ID is 
  132. 7437. A collection of over 2,800 icons sorted in 34 different categories is also 
  133. available for an additional $14, Please fill in the information sheet in the

  140. A single user license permits a user to use Icons Control only on a single
  141. computer.  Licensed users may use the program on different computers as long 
  142. as there is no possibility of it being used at one location while it is being 
  143. used at another, or on a network by more than one user at a time.

  145. A site license is required by a corporation, company, educational institution, 
  146. or governmental agency for use of Icons Control software on the total number 
  147. of computers that will use the software.
